Beach Ball of Death 2hr multi cam was created by Julian
I've done quite a few multi cam edits and have not had this problem. It happened on 10.1.2 and 10.1.3.
I shot the footage with four canon cameras, 6D, 70D, 60D, 5D, and the BMPCC in ProRes LT. This is the first project I've done with the pocket camera that's this long.
After about 55 minutes the project beach balls after every cut I make, be it hitting 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or cmd B. I've trashed preferences, moved it to a different drive, copied just the project to a new drive. I'm going to generate proxy media tonight to see if that helps, but in the past, I've had zero issues with 5 camera multi cam h.264 files.
I also restored from an automatic backup and it cut fine until I got to about 55 minutes, after that point it started to lock up again.
It's not a major project, just a kids play (a really awesome one though), so it's not a big deal to just start from scratch, I just don't want to get to 55 minutes again and have it lock up.
Any insight is appreciated.
My setup is a 2011 iMac 3.4 GHz i7 with the 2GB GPU, SSD and 16GB RAM. I know for a fact that it's not my system that is having the issue as I do lots of live concert multi cam edits all the time.
EDIT: I exported the project XML and then imported it into the same event and it seems to be working fine now, but I haven't done any real editing, just tried making a few cuts... Really odd.

Just wondering if by chance you updated FCPX mid project?
There is another thread here recently that I recall where the XML rebuild solved a similar problem.

Yes, I updated mid project. So maybe I got lucky with them releasing that update.

After spending another day working on this project, it started to have the same beach ball issue happen every few hours or so, but if I exported the XML and imported it again, everything would work fine for a few more hours. Does anyone have any idea why something like this might happen?

I'm wondering if it has something to do with the way automatic backups work in 10.1.2 and 10.1.3. It's supposedly very flawed and causes some lag. Try disabling backups in your Library and see if that helps.
