Alright so I was recording commentary for a series with many episodes. 20, in fact. Commentary recording using the voiceover tool and USB microphone went fine until the middle of episode 8 where it just kept repeating a 1 second clip of recorded audio until we pressed STOP. This same 1 second clip of recorded audio was all that was recorded for the commentary track for episodes 9-20 as well. Obviously I don't want to redo commentary for all of those episodes.
Has anyone encountered anything like this ever? Sooooo much work has been lost because of this error. I'm not sure which app to blame. I'm sure most here will say that FCPX is not at fault. I don't know how the USB microphone could be at fault but maybe it could be. Needless to say I do NOT trust the Voiceover recording tool at all. Not one bit. Very afraid to use it now. Can Premiere do this?

Redifer,
Peter requires $$$ for subscription to stay logged in. Kind of like the Adobe model. :lol:
VO issue sounds weird.
Did you review the sound takes as you did them?
Were they ever there? If so likely to still be files.
Is it possible that the 1 second loop is some form of "audition" being created? There was a recent change that creates auditions for different audio takes.
Really no idea, not seen this happen.
Let us know when you figure this out.
Hope this helps, Greg

I do VO work on an almost daily basis, and FCPX's tool has always worked just fine. So to address your questions;
Could it be the USB mic? It sure could be! USB devices require drivers, either built-in existing ones, or their own. The mic's driver could be buggy, the built-in driver could have compatibility issues. Exactly what make/brand mic are you using?
And are you doing auditions, stacking, or doing one long take and editing that up?

Well it's not the mic itself but likely the mic-to-USB adaptor. I got it at Microcenter and I've since thrown away the box. The small device itself has no name brand screened onto it which is probably a big clue.
