No preview in Media and Sound browser?

Hi,

for some reason FCPX won´t let me preview the sound effects in the “Final Cut Pro Sound Effects” or the ”iLife Sound Effects” folders, in the Media browser. Not even when I add the folders again to the Music and Sound tab .

If I add a sfx to the timeline the audio plays fine but I can’t preview it in the Media browser.
Audio in iTunes is no problem previewing

Anyone have a clue?

Best regards

Hej Rickard,

I assume you are working with the latest version? If so:

First thing you should try is launch FCP X while holding the SHIFT+CMD keys pressed. You will get a window asking if you want to refresh your preferences. Click OK, let FCP X start up and see if this solves the problem.

Hi Ronny

yes I´m on 10.1.2 and running it on 10.9.2.

I tried to reset the preferences but to no change in before mentioned behavior of FCPX. I know this has worked before in earlier versions. Normally I use other software for my sfx libraries so there´s no major panic but it´s annoying that the Music and Sound browser "partly" work.

I´ve been playing around to try to find any relationship to what´s wrong but haven´t really find anything. Except that all files that´s in caf-format will not play, period. And all iLife, FCP effects and Garageband files are in the caf format. Also some really old wav and aif format files will not play but this has more to do with the OS than FCPX.

Anyhow thanx for your help!

I haven't seen this particular issue myself, but I have done some research and found that other people have been able to solve this by re-installing FCP X. So maybe this could help.

Hi Ronny,

I start to suspect this as well. In my testing here trying to find out what wrong. I've recognized that FCPX takes quite a lot of time indexing added audiofiles in the Music and Sound browser. Also found here in my testing is that I have another machine with FcPX 10.0.9 running on 10.8.5 and no matter what I do I can't get the Music and Sound browser to refuse playing any soundclips.

Do you happen to know if the others who has been having similar problem been on earlier versions or on 10.1.2 as well?
