Hello. Is there a way of doing this on FCPX natively or plugin? Thanks!

This "hyper lapse" video was edited in FCP X:

He used the Warp Stabilizer in AE to stabilize the shaky time-lapse sequence, but you can get the same results with the built-in stabilizer in FCP X or Motion.

If the images have been shot so badly that the AE or FCP X/Motion stabilizers cannot correct the shakiness the Lock&Load plugin from CoreMelt will probably give better results.

Or: you can just shoot the whole thing with a video camera and a professional stabilizing rig and you won't have to go into all that trouble of fixing shaky images when you speed up the video ;)

Just a word of advice: if you want to create your own "hyper lapse" video do it quick. Because at the rate everyone is posting such videos now everybody will be sick and tired of this effect very soon :)

Microsoft is showing really crappy shot video. I know amateurs who can't, if they tried, shoot such crappy video. Seriously? Microsoft, get a life...

… is anybody aware, that MS is demoing here some highly complex software, far beyond fancy 'hyper lapse'-stuff? That the recordings are intentionally 'bad' to demo WHAT that experimental software does: re-creating a complex 3D scene just by using a single, shaky video PLUS calculating a new camera track? ...

... the magic is beyond the title of the video and beyond 00:30s ...

//sorry for getting grumpy, but this is a superb piece of science, perhaps not fulfilling 'broadcast standards' and superb although done from the Dark Side ;) //

Karsten,

This has nothing to do with the technology developed by MS, which I agree is quite amazing under the hood.

"Hyperlapse" has become a general expression for showing off stabilized time-lapsed or sped up video. And at this moment there are so many "hyper lapse" videos on the net that you get sick of seeing them. You don't even need any of the MS technology to do this, you can do this with any decent stabilizing software (which is amazing technology as well). Or you can just shoot it correctly and be done with it.

The MS technology is primarily intended to be commercialized as a Windows phone app, not a professional application. Only when the technology gets better (the rendering quality is really bad as it is now) may we see some use for it outside of the shaky phone footage domain.

sorry, Randy for sounding stubborn: You can NOT do this with existing stabilizing software.- Just watch&listen the explanation carefully - it not just pushes frames into position, it reenacts the scenery in 3D (can your software create 3D from a 2D pic? 3D-position, perhaps, planar tracking, stuff... but a whole 'world'? ), new and diff. perspectives included... The cam holds positions it never had in the 'real' source video.

That's no stabilizing nor hyperlapse, that's pure CGI ...

But anyhow... imho, this is amazing basic-research, and asking for a plug-in ... or discussing pic-quality ..... <creeping under my stone> don't worry!

Please read my reply carefully. I said:

So I was only referring to the overkill of sped up/stabilized videos that are being posted on the net and not to the MS research that seems to carry the same name, that is totally different and that has nothing to do with all this.

Simply a specialized application of existing video stabilization.

I don't think I've ever discounted the technology that was being used on the video at all, simply asking a question. which brings me to a question, what's wrong about asking for something that can do something similar either natively or plugin on FCPX instead of downloading another piece of redundant software. But thanks for your input, I'll have to do more reading about this MS technology, time-permitting.

sorry, rhoydotp et al,

my contribution wasn't meant to offend anybody ... I was just 'overwhelmed' by the demo and surprised, nobody shares my excitement .. hitting the right 'tone' in written speech, esp. in a foreign language is a bit difficult- apologies!!!

... I'm a grumpy ol' man .. and German .. to my excuse ... :woohoo:
