warning message"cannot perform this operation" was created by dpcam1
Hi, everyone. I'm wondering if anyone has struck this message before..."Cannot perform this operation. The application detected an error that prevents changes from being made." I'm getting this when using the basic title. My timeline is 1080p with all imported clips optimised. Between my clips I've put the basic title. It seems to happen after I've inserted my own text into the basic title text template.
I'm using a late 2011 iMac with 24gig of ram and a 2.8 ghtz processor and running 10.1.2.
Is this a know bug because I can't find it mentioned anywhere else?

I did try another timeline with the basic title in between clips and it doesn't seem to have fallen over. I used Helvetica in the crashing timeline...how can that be corrupted?

Probably isn't, was just a thought. If it works in another timeline, is there a way to isolate what the difference is between the working and non-working timelines. Are the clips on both sides the same? Same FX applied (if any)? What happens if you copy and paste the whole sequence into a new project/timeline? It's often hard to track down these odd issues that other folks haven't seen.
If nothing "simple" works, make a snapshot. Then, In the "bad" timeline, what happens if you delete the clip before the title? Or the one after the title? Use another title effect with the same font? Different font? Just mess around methodically, one change at a time, until it (hopefully) works. Whatever change you made before it worked was the problem. Then you just need to try and fix it. Sorry if this is of no real help... Good Luck!

You get this message when your Project database is getting corrupted. It's a safety system built inside FCP X to prevent you from continuing to work on a corrupt Project and risking to lose all your work.
When you get this message you will see that you cannot use CMD+Z (Undo) anymore. That's why FCP X won't allow you to continue. Usually the problem has nothing to do with the exact clip or the title you are working on, it's a database issue.
The best thing you can do when you get this message is to paste the Project content into a new Project, as you have done. This will create an entirely fresh database for your edit and, unless there is effectively a corrupt clip in the Project, this will solve the problem.
