re-capture media

Hi

I'm VERY new to FCP X, and looked for a similar post but could not find one.
I imported loads of footage into FCP X and created proxy's of all of them. To save space I've deleted the optimised media but still have the original card information stored on other external drive.

I've done a complete edit with the proxy's and want to re-capture all the media used in project so that I can relink to the original/optimised media and export.

How do I do it?

Thanks

You don't need to do that. You simply switch playback to original in the viewer? Or did you delete the original media as well?

WOW, thanks for the prompt response.

The original media is P2, so FCPX won't just link back to it.

I don't understand. You imported the DVCPRO HD media in FCP and it's in a folder or inside the library. Or did you do something differently?

Sorry for not understanding, I'll explain my workflow as I would do it in FCP7.

1) Log&Transfer. FCP7 would then capture/create a .mov copy of Panasonic P2 (MXF) files. I could capture this in proxy format.
2) I could then do my edit
3) When I'm finished I would select all my clips on my timeline, right click and select capture. I could then specify that I would like to capture ProRess422HQ. FCP7 would then re-capture all the media selected in HQ.

I'll take you through all the steps I took in FCP X.

1) I imported Panasonic P2 (MXF) into FCP X using media import.

2) FCP then creates a .mov in the original media folder.

3) I then create a proxy of all the media, when I'm sure that there is a proxy copy of all the media, I delete all the original media in finder. I do this because of two reasons 1) I don't have enough hard drive space to have all my media as original/optimised .mov's stored on my drive. 2) I always backup my Panasonic P2 (MXF) files as it takes less space and it's a duplicate copy of original card info so I can always restore to original recorded source.

4) I create my edit from proxy clips

5) Now I would like to batch re-capture/re-import only the media used.
Hope this clears things up, and hope there is a function like this

Thanks

There isn't. If you have saved the original media as imported in FCP you could put it back in the original media folder where it came from. If you trashed the original media, you might try switching playback to original and see if you can use the reimport from camera function to reimport the media.
