Frame Rate Conversion Question

Hey Folks:
Currently cutting a project shot in the UK at 25 FPS. Ultimately, the audience for the project will be web and DVD, with primary audience in the States.
Typically, we master everything out at 30 fps (or 29.97). Plan on doing the same here.
My plan is to cut everything in a 25 fps timeline (basically, to avoid having to constantly render everything). Once the final is approved, I'll copy and paste the whole thing into a 30 fps timeline for final mastering.
Makes sense? Is there a better way?
Thanks as always.

Why not cut in a 30p timeline? You shouldn't have to render much at all. It should playback just fine without rendering. I'd try it, see how much rendering it actually demands of you. I bet not much.

Well, I started off that way but seemed to be encountering a lot of renders (i.e., every shot that was added to the timeline) so went the other way. FWIW, I'm on a nMP.
Thanks.
Thanks.

What type of drive are your Libraries on?
Are you rendering because playback is way too choppy, or simply because you have render bars?

Is the 25fps footage progressive? If so you are much better off doing a slowdown in FCPX to 23.98. It even pitch corrects the audio. Then you will have a 24p dvd with no fake frames or motion stutter.
