Have anyone tried to used the "WD MY BOOK DUO 6TB USB 3.0" for video editing? In Raid 0 it shall performance up to 290 Mb/s but, it has a "hardware encryption" that can be a trouble if you can't disable it.
For us that don't have a thunderbolt connection perhaps.......

Hi MacLamb,
I do not have this unit but have other portable WD drives.
Apparently you can choose to use the encryption or not. WD's password protection is more problematic in my opinion, if you set it up you have to use it. It gets embedded via firmware and makes it impossible to use a portable WD drive for say Time Machine. Wish they let user decide.
Here is an AnandTech article on this unit.…

Gives actually speeds for RAID 0 and 1. Encryption on and off.
Note that the software is win doze.
Also this is a hardware RAID. When using HW RAIDs it is harder to reconfigure than using software RAID available in Disk Utility.
Make sure you have separate back-ups of all RAID units. One drive goes down in RAID 0 all data lost. This is why I prefer to have RAID 1+0+media back-ups.
Glad to see WD finally decided to stop only allowing certain blessed hdds in their units.
Hope this helps, Greg
