how to edit multicam clip length ? was created by Ryszard K
hi All,
I Have been looking for a solution for ages to this multicam problem and i just can't seem to find it anywhere on the internet... perhaps someone can help me here...
Example: I used 3 video cameras to film the First dance at a wedding.... Total time is approx 3 mins
I select the 3 clips and create a multi cam clip
First problem: I have 2 canon XF100 cameras and fcpx seems to think they are the same camera so clips from both cameras always appear on the same timeline but spaced apart.
Second problem : The actual video recorded was only 3 minutes long but FCPX creates a Muticam clip in the browser contains over 10 hours of black empty space!!!
How can i change the length of this clip in the browser to reflect the actual video contained in the multi cam clip?
FYI: all the clips in the multi cam clip have been moved over to start from the 00:00:00:00 position.
AM i missing something obvious?
I hope someone can help...

Are you syncing to audio?
Sounds like your 2 Canon cameras are set to same camera name, but different timecode or time of day - that's why the long black space...
Highlight the clips in browser, and click the "info" tab of the inspector, then give the cameras a different name in the "camera angle" field. That should make them appear on separate timeline angles.

Hi Ryszard,
Are you using FCPX10.1.2?
Good advice from Guru, also check the camera settings and update there. It may be that you have the same time but one cam is a.m. and the other set to p.m..
Also rename your cards and then be sure to use the same camera for each renamed card, don't mix them and they will be recognized separately in FCPX. Card names can be XFCamA / XFCamB for example or anything you like. You can mark them with a sharpie.
Hope this helps, Greg
