Retime not changing length

I have imported some mp4 (AVC 15fps/AAC 44.1k Mono) video tutorials, I want to slow them down to 85% because the guy rushes through and talks too fast.

The timeline shows the video and audio separately (one under the other) and I can't find a function to link them, so it seems I need to select each. I select Retime button, change Set Speed Rate-Custom (ripple unchecked) and enter the retime figure of 85%. The orange render bar appears but the length of the video and audio tracks don't change in length, they should get longer on the timeline but they don't. What is the reason for this?

The other method-If I select each track, either the video or audio, select retime I can use retime handle to drag to the right until 85% shows up. However, I can't seem to do this for both video and audio at the same time and as a result I can't accurately resize them to the exact increment of 85% as there seems to be a significant amount of sub increments between 85% and 86%. How is this overcome?

There's no obvious "link a/v tracks' like old FCP.

It sounds like you've opened the clip in the timeline. From the browser? From inside a project? Why are you unchecking ripple? That will tr the clip. If you open the clip in the timeline the video and audiio are separate components. You have to retime them separately. Normally retiming is done inside a project not inside a clip.

I created new Library, imported the clip, right clicked it to selected open in Timeline. Should I create an new Project?
Why I unchecked Ripple is because there are no other clips in the timeline...does this make a difference in this case?
Are you suggesting this retiming can be done directly in the browser on the clip via a right click? I've been following the "Final Cut Pro X: Change clip speed" document support.apple.com/kb/PH12643 which shows the operation performed in the timeline.

The support page shows a clip inside a project. Because the material is 15fps you might want to do it in it's own timeline. You want ripple on. FCP cannt make a project at 15fps. The lowest frame rate is 23.98.

Ah interesting. I created a Project inside an existing library, imported the video and dragged it to the timeline, a drop down sheet alerted me that the video properties cannot be recognised (due to the 15fps rate) it recognised the farmesize of 1280x720. Retimed to 80% ripple enabled, render line appeared but when render all or selection was selected FCPX did not respond, nor did the Share. Shrug
