ADDING A CUSTOM NAME TO A SERIES OF CLIPS PRIOR TO IMPORTING

Is it possible to add a custom name to a series of clips prior to importing like we could in the log and transfer window of 7?
Or can I easily rename a series of clips (without having to do each one separately) after importing now in X? Basically I want to add a custom name to all of the clips I just imported? Is there a batter way to give a bunch of clips a new name? Thanks.

You can create an autonator droplet on the finder level or use compresor and process the files further.

It is perfectly possible to batch-rename a number of clips after having imported them. Here's the official how-to from Apple: support.apple.com/kb/PH12722

And here's a video about batch-renaming that was posted here on fcp.co some time ago:

Although I don't recommend doing this anymore, in the pre "X" days of FCP I would have to batch rename DSLR footage on larger jobs when there was the risk of repeat file names.

I used "A Better Finder Rename". It's a pretty handy app. You can batch rename, add prefixes and suffixes, batch remove characters, etc. It's pretty great.
