Has anyone figured out how to use FCP 7 & FCP X at the same time.

Hi there
I know you can't have 7 open the same time as X but it is irritating me. I have a lot of grunt rendering out work to do in 7 but want to get back to my edits in X.
Does anyone know how to make one app "invisible" to the other. I assume they are totally independant from each other with FCP X having been written from the ground up.
Thanks.

Hi VP,
The easiest and best way to run FCP7 & X would be on 2 different computers. Both programs use lots of resources like ram, I/O bus bandwidth, CPU, GPUs etc…so even if you can get it to work, you would be really taxing most computer systems.
Haven't heard of anyone successfully running both at once and Apple says no. However, a possible (maybe, don't know) way would be to run 7 in a virtual environment like Parallels or Fusion. I have been able to run background processes in Parallels (Linux) while continuing to work in OSX. Haven't tried FCP. Like I said, you can quickly use up resources so expect some slowdowns.
Hope this helps, Greg

You can have 7 and X open at the same time, you just can't USE them at the same time. 7 doesn't care about X. But X gets all hot and bothered if 7 is open and it will whine and refuse to operate. It will remain open, though. So you can be using X, open 7 and use that to your heart's content, close it and then use X again. 7 gets priority, X takes the backseat.

What specifically are you using 7 for?

Great comments everyone - thank you.
Usually I work on my Macbook Pro with 7 and render out and then on my iMac I work on X. The reason why I am using both is that the 1st season I did of a television series was all compiled in 7 in another city, I used Xto7 to change my off-line edits for them.
Now however I am slowly working on the 2nd season in X however the 1st season is being broadcast on a whole bunch of smaller platforms so I am changing the standards and formats for the different requirements and then exporting.
I just got so tired of the massive render files and jumping between two machines and was looking to just focus on one machine but I know there is no love between 7 & X.
