Yesterday I created new event and imported media. That worked fine. Did some editing with that media and that worked too. This morning I can't find the version of the project with yesterday's edits. Earlier versions are there.
As well as checking the FCPX automatic backups I'm also running the app Backups for FCPX. Neither seems to have copied yesterday's work.
This is most puzzling. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Squamish,
Did you try to open via File>Open Library>From Backups? Gives you access to time/date stamped backup library files.
Should be there.
Troubling when automatic backups don't work.
You didn't by chance have different drives connected while working on this project?
