Lost all files in a compound clip - please help!

Hi all,

I'm running FCPX 10.0.9

I think I lost a day and half work that was saved in a compound clip. Somehow all clips in this compound clip disappeared. The compound clip in the event browser is empty.

In the FInal Cut Events folder on my hard disk, inside the specific project folder, there is a backup folder that contains a .fcpevent file that is couple of hours old and might contain the compound clip's clips. But when I double click this backup file, FCPX tells me that it should be opened from within FCPX. As hard as I tried, I can't find the way to open this file from within FCPX.

Help is more than appreciated!

Benny

Did you ever manage to get a backup version to open?
Have you already recreated the lost clips?
In the latest version of FCPX10.1.2 you can open from a backup via File>Open Library>From Backup and then choose the time date stamp of the backup you want to use. Not sure about 10.0.9 anymore.
I have in the past moved the current event file to the trash or another drive and then opened the program and FCP will open from the most recent backup, I think this was not what you wanted however so moving the file into place should have worked.
Know this is not so timely, but hope this helps, Greg

The backup .fcpevent file will not open when double clicking it. A popup window tells you to open it from within FCPX but there is no way of doing so in FCPX 10.0.9

We did reconstruct the scene - luckily my editor has a good memory.

When this current project is finished, I'll upgrade my gear and move to 10.1.2 or whatever version will be then.

Thanks Greg.

In the rare case you should need this again:

The trick is to rename the "backup.fcpevent" file to "current.fcpevent" and to replace the existing current.fcpevent file in your Event folder with the renamed backup file (store the existing file to a safe place before doing this). When you launch FCP X it will take your backup file for the existing one and will open it.
