Suggestions for Color Accent effect

Suggestions for Color Accent effect was created by Pansa
I'm trying to eliminate all but one color in my video clips (kind of like in the movie Sin City). In Final Cut 7, I achieved this using the limit effect in the color corrector. The luma and saturation sliders let me select a very specific range of colors, and I inverted the selection to (for example) eliminate all the color except the red on the car. I've been trying to do the same thing in FCPX using the color mask, but without those sliders it can be difficult to select the narrow range of color I'm after.
I know FxFactory has a color accent effect in their $200 pack, but that's the only one I want and I don't want to pay that much.
Would anyone have any advice for achieving this in FCPX? Even if it's not through a plug-in or if it's to tell me I'm doing something wrong, any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Have you tried stacking two clips on top of each other and then applying a chromakey to the top clip & inverting the selection?

The chromakey tip should work well because the new FCPX keyer really is an improvement. If the key pulls off well just desaturate the lower clip and you should be fine.
On the other hand I have successfully used just the color correction tool to selectively isolate colors in a few clips. I guess it all depends on how narrow your selection must be. Here's another video that may give you some ideas on how to apply a Sin City effect using the color correction tool:
