10.1.2 beachballing a lot on older iMac (10.1 was fine)

I oversee a dozen iMacs (late 2009 3.06GHz C2D) at a public access TV station, which are sadly aging. Installing 10.1.2 has brought on massive beachballing on these computers. 10.1 was fine (given the tech). We're still a little ways off from the budget to upgrade the machines.

Bad me for installing it across the board. It's been great on my personal machine 2011 i7 MBP, I'd seen reports of speed improvements from others on the forums and 10.1 was fine for us.

Any suggests beyond reverting or new machines?

Thanks much.

We also have a Late 2009 iMac and it runs slow and his may simply be because it's a 3.06 Ghz Core 2 Duo with a NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB. This isn't enough to run FCPX 10.1.2 well. On my 2013 high-end iMac FCPX flys.

The new FCPX needs a fast GPU to keep things flowing well. Our 2009 iMacs can't keep up but they are still great video tools.

Thanks for the reply. No question it's an aging machine for FCPX. Anything before an i-processor is asking for it a bit. I was surprised at the change in beach balling between 10.1 and 10.1.2 (I hadn't installed 10.1.1 on these). With 10.1 and back to 10.0.3 and later it'd been slow, but quite workable. The beach balling since this update has been very frequent and across a variety of minor tasks on new and small libraries/events/projects.

Since buying a bunch of new computers isn't in the cards right now, I'll have to try other avenues. I haven't trashed preferences, so I'll test that next.
