I'm in love with the sounds of the tv show Banshee on cinemax, and in general the editing.

I'm trying to figure out how I can make the sound effect of a punch to the face the same consistency with the show. This is a clip of a scene with the punch sound I'm trying to recreate

Any thoughts or ideas? maybe a link to a good or close punch sound effect?

Thanks!

Had a very quick fiddle with the built-in Final Cut Pro Sound Effects:
- Layered up the sounds Slap 1 and Thud
- Zoomed in on the clips and moved them at the sub-frame level to line them up
- Applied a Pitch effect to both, bringing down the pitch of Slap 1 and bring up the pitch of Thud
- Adjusted the levels until I was happy with the mix

It's worth having a listen to all the sounds in the Impact & Crashes and Foley categories.

There's plenty of sounds that can be downloaded, best you do some research as it's down to personal taste.

It you want to record your own punch sounds, I've heard that punching and slapping a leather jacket can work. You can break celery sticks to imitate ribs cracking! This is a fantastic guide: amzn.to/1tqA3ea

Friend of mine at the BBC used to chop a nice firm cabbage with a meat cleaver... Last time I looked, he still had all his fingers.

Cabbage or iceberg lettuce with a large wooden meat tenderizing mallet.

Empty large beanbag filled with kidney or coffee beans, actually punch it, or hit it with something wooden.

Lots of ways to do this. But bear in mind most pro effects are almost always layers from different sources to build up the final sound. So you've basically already started off down the correct path. You just need a variety of sources to pull from in your audio composite.

Clearly I need to learn how to edit audio in fcpx. I'm still really new to this software and it's a learning curve for me. I come from audio production software that dates back to 2002. GAH.

So is there a good tutorial for learning how to use any layer audio effects in fcpx?
