How to make moving letterbox effect on my videos?

Sorry if this is such a beginner question, But I would appreciate it if someone could make a tutorial or link me to one that shows how you make a moving letterbox effect? Meaning the letterbox gets larger and stops at a certain point to make the viewer feel like they are being pulled into the scene.

I will post a link of an example if needed.

Do you mean you already have letter boxing, but you want the black bands to grow larger as you view the clip? That could be done by just keyframing the Top and Bottom Trim parameters in the Crop section of the Inspector.

This keyframing can also be done directly in the main Viewer using the controls there.

If you want the clip itself to enlarge but the black area to remain constant, that's done by keyframing the Scale parameter in the Transform section of the Inspector.

So, give us more details, please...

As the previous post mentioned, go to the inspector and keyframe the top/bottom crop. This will do exactly what you need here.

Yes, your example just has a large crop value set, then it's keyframed to dial down that cropping over time. You also mentioned the effect of being pulled into the scene. If you look you will see that in your example the clip is also subtly scaled smaller as the crop expands, adding to the effect. As I mentioned, that can be done by keyframing the Scale.

I don't know how new to FCPX you are, but if you don't know how to keyframe, there are a number of free tutorials all over the web.
