Locking video with external audio

Greetings to all! What used to be a simple thing in FCP6 has me mystified in FCPX. I want to lock together my audio to a video clip after i've sunk it up, so not to accidentally knock it out of sync. How do you do this? I've Googled this question for hours last night with no answer.

Assuming you mean you have a video clip in a Project timeline, then drag an audio clip above or below it - the audio is automatically a "connected clip." In FCP6 the tracks were unconnected, in FCPX the magnetic timeline does this for you. You'll see a tiny bar connecting the audio clip to the video clip. As you edit the video, that connection point travels with the video.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I see this knife that connects the video with the audio but still you can grab the audio and slide it around out of sync from the video clip. The knife just connects it to the clip but not to a specific place in the clip.

Actually, it *does* connect it to a specific place in the main clip. That secondary clip will travel with the main clip. Yes, you can grab the connected clip and drag it elsewhere if you wish - that's the way it is designed. In fact, if you delete the portion of the primary clip that includes that selection point, it will also delete the secondary clip.
Also, if you have multiple clips stacked up, be aware that you cannot connect a clip to a connected clip, only to the primary storyline clip. That's a much requested feature.
If you just mean you want to collapse them into one clip, like we used to Nest things in FCP6, that would be done by selecting the clips, right clicking, and making them a New Compound Clip.

dDixon, thanks that was the answer I was hoping for ........ to right click and make it a compound clip, I think the language is different for FCPX. Thanks!
