No Project thumbnails

I must be doing something wrong, because sometimes I have a project thumbnail and sometimes I don't

This is my process. Create a new event with the 'create a new project' box checked. The event appears with an 'Untitled Project' box in the browser. I rename the project to what I want.

Then I import the files I need, and selecting the first one I click the 'append to timeline' button. The clip loads to the timeline.

Now sometimes the project box fills with the thumbnail and other times it doesn't. Everything else works, and I can finish and render out my video. But it is annoying that some of the events have projects with thumbnails and others simply have a blank box. It makes me think that FCPX is not working correctly, or I am doing something wrong.

I am waiting for a crash to happen as I continune, unless i fix whatever is causing this behavior.

Can anyone throw some light on this for me please.

A thumbnail bug will not crash your system. But I'm going to assume there could be a thumbnail bug, since they changed how cache storage works.

That said, verify the clip appearance settings for your Timeline (bottom right of timeline pane). Make sure they're ok. Also, use Shift-Z to be sure you are seeing everything at a good zoom level. Finally, check track hight in the clip appearance settings, be sure they're tall enough to see the thumbnails.

Everything seems to be OK. Just to be sure that I did describe the problem well. attached is an image of what I am seeing (or not seeing to be more precise)

I haven't had Project thumbnails in the Browser since 10.1.0, this isn't new.

Thanks Ben, guess I am just being paranoid, I hate it when a program behaves inconsistently. But I will just accept it as an irritation that maybe will one day be fixed.

I don't seem to have any issue with project thumbnails. They seem to appear for me. I do recall having to scrub through a project in the browser once or twice to get a thumbnail to be created, but usually they appear automatically for me.

I take it back, since the 10.1.2 I am not getting Project thumbnails pretty consistently.

I have only started 3 projects so far under 10.1.2 but all 3 have created project thumbnails automatically.
