Finder assigned tags on network drives? was created by alex4D
As 10.1.2 can set keywords based on Finder tags, has anyone got any experience with tags on network drives?
Since OS X Mavericks came out people have had problems making them work on non-local drives.
According to zphelj on the Apple Support Communities , you need to make sure Spotlight has indexed any NASes you want to use:

Use 'mdutil /Volumes/[Share Name] -i on' to enable (off to disable)

Finder tags are serialised as binary plist and stored as extended file system attribute.
Based on that, I suppose that tags will work in FCP X as long as the NAS file system supports extended attributes.
You can check if a file has stored extended attributes with xattr
e.g.
To list the content of an extended attribute, you can use mdls:
The above prints the same tags that FCP X uses for my test file.
John Siracusa's Mavericks review has some great details about Finder tags.
