London 'Smart Collection' meet up - 6:30pm July 21st
It is a week until Monday July 21st, and a few Final Cut Pro X editors will be gathering in a quiet London pub to talk and drink until closing time.
We couldn't wait a whole month before getting back together.
Please join us at the Star & Garter pub on Poland Street at 6:30pm.
If you're coming, it would be great if you could reply here.

Want to meet up in London next week?
Despite being the media capital of the world, I know of very few gatherings of Final Cut Pro X users.
Following on from a tweet by Thomas Grove Carter to me, I thought we should be able to organise something informal.
So, does anyone have a favourite centrally-located pub of choice? Avoiding the World Cup means meeting up on Monday, Thursday or Friday.
Reply here, and we should be able to sort something out amongst ourselves.

Although I've added links to these names, of course all are welcome...

Woud love to join you for a chat if I can get back to Belgium the same day. London is only a few hours with Eurostar. Thursday or Friday would be best for me, a venue close to St. Pancreas station would be ideal.

Thanks Ronny. It's not so bad, Avid feels like a pair of comfy slippers that are a bit old-fashioned but do the job fine. It's amazing though - how many things you have to keep 'parked' in your memory cutting on MC that you don't have to with X - and that takes a lot of thought. X definitely seems to require less of that planning stuff, which means more time and brainpower to devote to creative decisions.
I digress. At some point this summer I'll be cutting in London. If it coincides with a meeting - I'll be there!

I like making practical jokes about Avid just because I have worked with Avid such a long time and I truthfully still like it better than most other track-based NLEs. As you say: it is a bit outdated but it still does the job very well. In fact the great thing about it is that it does not evolve very much, so once you know how to work around its quirks and its limitations you are good for a long time. But I still prefer FCP X above anything else.
Hope to meet you some day in London!

Pubs in Soho I used to drink in when I worked in post round there were The Blue Posts, The Old Coffee House and The Shaston Arms (has good real ales).

I'm a Canadian FCPX user who just recently landed in London for a 2 year stay, so a meet up sounds great to me.

Star & Garter at 6:30? It depends on what time you finish work - I'm more flexible on Monday than you.

What is the collective noun for editors? 'A seething resentment' perhaps?
