Maybe I am late to the party, but I had no idea until I tried it, but plug in a Thunderbolt -> HDMI adapter on an 2013 iMac, and boom you have broadcast monitoring out with WAY better performance that my Matrox MX02 Mini.

This is in 10.1.1 BTW.

Now THATS cool! So does this mean a normal iMac is capable of running an extra screen and a broadcast monitor?

Exactly. I have a 30" Cinema Display, the 27" iMac display, and then a thunderbolt to Hdmi multiplier running 2 1080p Hdmi displays.

Of course I'm still going to use my Matrox for feeding my Sony CRT, but only occasionally.
