Do I need a compressor was created by cockneyjay
I want to put a 3 hour project on to dvd but I'm wondering what software I need.
If I have toast do I need compressor 4? Or does toast have a compressor built in? It's the first time I've done this.
Thanks,
Jay

No, but you will need a dual layer disc.

Compressor will allow you a little more control over the compression, but as Tom said, the main thing is being able to write it on a dual layer disc. Make sure that's DVD+R DL and not DVD-R DL as well, since DVD-R DL compatibility in players is seriously problematic.

What if the data is in excess of 120GB? Will the dvd still be able to take it if it's only 8GB? I was told by someone that the dvd memory doesn't matter. It's more to do with the running time.

When you compress for DVD it's all going to be transcoded to MPEG2 in standard definition. The size of your HD data is irrelevant.

Okay great but going back to my original question. You're saying I don't need a compressor to compress it? I just use toast and it will do it automatically when I put it on to the dvd?
