HELP!

So I am looking for the best (easiest) way to transfer a full Final Cut Pro Library ( FCPX 10.1.1 ) to another hard drive with all the contents already in the folder, meaning I didn't leave files in place. Everything I use and need is in the library folder.

Can I just drag the Final Cut Pro Library icon to the new drive and let it copy that way, then open the new library from the other drive and begin editing?

Have a feeling it will not be this easy.

If not, can anyone send a link on how to do this. I have been looking, but most of the links I find are about transferring libraries form the old FCPX to the new FCPX .

Thanks!

Hi Travis,

Yes it is pretty easy.

- Copy the library by dragging and dropping in the finder to the new drive.

- Open that copy of the library in FCP X

- Select the new copy of the library and go to 'file' then 'consolidate library files'.

Open up background tasks with cmd-9 and wait till the Media Management bar is done, you should be good to go.

Do you need to consolidate since the media is managed and part of that library?

I'm glad you asked that question!

I have gotten in the habit of it as I have "leave files in place checked in prefs.

I have found that sometimes there are files that are still symlinks when I drag a copy of a library. It's pretty neat how if I have a library that references files from another library, everything copies over to the new drive without consolidating first.

Most of the time it works great, but I have had a few Doh! moments when I fire up the travel drive. It doesn't hurt anything to hit consolidate.
