Clips just disappearing from the timeline. Just... gone. was created by Redifer
I don't know what or why this is happening but some of my clips are disappearing from the timeline for no reason whatsoever. They are not primary storylines, just clips connected to them. The ones that disappear are always after a push slide transition. Also the ones that go away are compound clips. Everything seems fine until I quit and restart FCPX, at least that's my observation, I may be missing a crucial element to the scenario somewhere. Has anyone had issues with this?
Damn it I really hope they update this app soon as this broken version we've been forced to use is getting more and more ridiculous by the day!

You should give feedback to Apple. Sounds like another "clip disappearing" bug.

I use the slide transitions a lot and I've never had this happen. I've never had a clip disappear since 10.0.0.
I know that doesn't help much but maybe there's someplace you should be looking besides FCP X? Bad drive or corrupt clips?
Tough to say from here...

I had this happen once and it was when I restored part of a project from a Snapshot.
Whole chunks went missing. Had to keep cutting and pasting from older versions until they finally stuck.
The other thing that would happen was some shots would get truncated and the only way to fix it was to re-edit the shot in from the original.
Edit was an upgraded 10.0.9 to 10.1 so maybe that had something to do with it?

Woah, can you replicate it consistently?
As a preventative measure, try an XML roundtrip. I've had projects get corrupted before and that may get rid of the gremlins.

The clips remain on the drive so I don't think it has anything to do with the drive. I just have to put them back into the timeline. I have reported it to Apple.
I can't recreate the bug. It only happens on this one project and I can't figure out why. It's happened twice with about 2 or 3 clips each time. It was different clips when it happened the second time. The only thing that's consistent is that the missing clip comes after a slide push transition. The transition remains but the clip is gone. Since it was in it's own storyline with another clip since it had a transition, I find it odd that just one clip from that sub-storyline disappeared instead of the entire connected sub-storyline.

I have had some odd things happen to particular projects but I can't reproduce them.
One is when exporting a project I got a warning that a "title, transition, effect or generator is missing" but I couldn't find anything missing and the project exported fine.
When I made a snapshot of the project to update it the same thing happened with the snapshot. I made a new project and copied over the elements from the snapshot and never got that message again.
Sounds like you've hit some random flakiness also.
These are the things they have to fix first I think. Never mind new features.

I have had similar problems with projects if FCP X crashes while I'm working. I have one right now that is too complex (not my edit BTW) to survive an XML roundtrip intact. If I select a particular clip, FCP X will crash every time.
I can't create compound clips in most sections of the project without crashing. It's crazy making.

I had this happen with compound clips created by 7toX. Had to give up eventually, and thought it was a 7toX problem. This post is making me think otherwise.
