fcpx not responding while working with many pictures

Every time I've tried to work with a big amount of photos (mostly timelapse sequences) fcpx slows down or the spinning ball comes and it can take several hours to be responsive again. This happened to me on different macs, and with different versions of fcpx (now on 10.1.1). Finally I decided to work timelapses with Photoshop and use only rendered videos inside fcpx. By error, I import 3 timelapses (with 2000 pictures) into a project I'm working on, and now deleting them is a real pain, if not impossible. I'm working a Macbook Pro late 2013, i7, 16gb Ram, GeForce GT750M 2gb, 500 gb ssd.

Does anybody have this same issue?

Just to be sure this has nothing to do with my setup.

Many thanks!

I've had an issue like that and it turned out my photo files were much bigger than I needed. Resizing so they had the same resolution as the video I was working on solved it for me.

Although I believe 10.1.1 may handle this type of project better than previous versions, FCPX historically did struggle with a large amount of image clips such as that many, especially if they were very large sizes. As Squamish Ed suggests, resizing prior to importing them may help. You might also try to make compound clips out of groups of them to see if FCPX handles them better than individual clips.

In fact I'm having problem with big images. I like to export them at their native res so then I can pan or zoom . I will continue using photoshop for creating timelapses, and then import it to fcpx.

Many thanks!
