Can't import AVCHD files in 10.1.1 was created by Russell
Hey Guys,
I upgraded FCPX to 10.1.1 from 10.0.8 and am having problems importing AVCHD files. This happens when importing directly from both my internal hard disk and camera Lumix GX7. No issues with .MOV files. File size is about 5Gb. Also tried to import a file under 500Mb, yet I’m still having the same issue. The dreaded spinning beach ball pops up and I’ve been unable to load any .MTS files on the finder.
I’m on a mid 2009 MacBook Pro running Mavericks 10.9.3 with 4GB of RAM.
Any help is appreciated.

4G RAM isn't adequate for pretty much anything, especially with the demands of the current OS.

I've had no problems importing AVCHD files previously. If it loads .MOV files fine, I figure it's not a RAM issue. Hope I don't need to downgrade back to 10.0.8 to resolve this issue.

You could delete FCPX preferences with this app which may clear up problems.

.MOV files are not AVCHD files and vice versa, so comparison to the performance following an upgrade don't work. The MOV file is a container and the codec of the data within that container may simply require less interpolation during import.
It's plausible that a significant update to FCPX can Impact memory resources on a Mac. Thus with only 4GB available overall It's fair to consider RAM an issue.
Also, changes in the update may impact older Mac graphics chip performance.
All that said, deleting the preferences may bring FCPX right back to expected performance.

I did delete the preference files, zapped my PRAM and even made a fresh install but no luck.
Thanks for the input.
