Hi guys,

I am having problems with zooming on Final Cut Pro X.

Basically, I am trying to recreate the end of this video -
(2.50 onwards). I am struggling with getting the text to zoom properly.

I've used scale and position keyframes, which work from a to b, but move up and down instead of a smooth transition.

Can anyone help?

This is a pet peeve of mine: if you want to do a) Scale changes and b) Position animation of a clip with c) straight paths and d) smooth easing at the start and end of the move - similar to the quality of Ken Burns effect moves, ScreenFlow Video Actions, etc. - that has always been near impossible in Final Cut. I've read that it's due to Scale and Position - one uses arithmetic moves and one is logarithmic or some such.

You can get close if you take a lot of time and tweak handles and control points, etc., and if you don't care about the Easing it can be done, but I recommend just using Alex4D's free Smooth Move plugin, which I assume gets better results because it draws on Motion effects instead.

The download link is a bit hard to find, but is about halfway down the page. If you use this, make sure you put the playhead near the beginning of the clip to set the Start parameters, then move it near the end to accurately see what you're getting as you set the End parameters.

And the Start/End Percent settings control where in the clip the animation happens - for example a Start percent of 10 and End percent of 70 would start the move 10 percent of the way thru the clip and end it 70 percent thru, with the bits outside that range static.

It's pretty amazing. One more tip - if your clip doesn't fill the screen, you may need to make it a Compound Clip before applying the plugin.
