Just opened up Final cut to work on a project, and all my clips are gone. There is no red missing file alert, but all the clips are blue and the videos show up as a black screen in the viewer with no audio. I have a horrible feeling I might have accidentally deleted them, but the fact that I haven't gotten the red missing file alert gives me a shred of hope. Anyone know where my video clips could have gone and why they're not showing up?? Any help would be appreciated, thank you!!

Need a lot more info. What OS What version of Final Cut.

These look like empty compound clips to me so that would explain no red alert.

Why do you have a horrible feeling? What did you do?

I've had, numerous times, it unlinking clips from the library. If you browse the library, they're still there, but the link seems to have broken. Right click the clip and 'reveal in finder' from the browser window and see if it does infact still exist. If it does, you may need to relink them.

I have seen this happen more prior to 10.1. Trashing the preferences won't necessarily fix this, but it's a good starting off point.

The fixes in order they should be tried:

1. In prefrences, make sure "leave files in place" is checked, then drag your media files back in to the event. Sometimes this brings it back to normal where relinking doesn't.

2. With "leave files in place" checked in prefs, copy the project to a different drive, quit FCPX, then eject the drive with the media. Start FCPX, mount the media drive, and try to relink the offline media.

3. This usually works, but can in rare cases create odd anomalies in your project. Make a new library, (or event if you are in 10.0.9 or earlier) and export an XML of your project, then import that in the new library or event you created.

Also DigitalRebellion has a project repair app that in some cases has helped.
