Losing renders when duplicating projects. was created by Videopixels
Been scratching my head a bit. Every time I duplicate a project and then open it up the renders are no longer there and I have to re-render. At the moment my render folder inside my Library for that event and project is 46 Gig.
I will get rid of the render files soon but any thoughts?

I would ask, why are you rendering everything in the first place?
But to the point, I'm testing, and when I duplicate a project, the renders are still in place. I assume you're simply duplicating in place (cmd-d) and not from one Library to another, or from one Event to another. Correct?

Absolutely correct, duplicating in place cmd-d.
I have to render because I have pulled in a lot of motion graphics from Motion in ProRes 4444 and the alpha is not showing up without the render, it is also over green screen footage keyed out footage with two moving backgrounds under that.

I guess you have been re-rendering the same clips multiple times? This creates multiple render files for the same clips and when you close down the app and re-launch it, or when you duplicate the rendered Project, FCP X can get confused and may lose the connections to the latest render files.
When you have to re-render the same clips over and over again it is best to regularly delete your Project render files. This keeps your drive from filling up with obsolete renders and it prevents losing connections to the render files when you close or duplicate the Project.

Many thanks Ronny.
I just did that, exporting all at the moment and will nervously duplicate the project to see what happens with the new single rendered sequence when I am done.
I hope it gets sorted with the next update of FCP X, usually not a problem but with this slightly more complicated project it has been a bit of a challenge.

You are right, it is a bit of a problem when you need to re-render quite often. FCP7 had the same issues with losing connections to render files. The advantage of not automatically deleting old render files when you re-render is that when you press Undo you keep any previous renders. The disadvantage is that too many render files for the same clip can lead to confusion. There's always a trade-off
