Dissovels on multiply overlays clips.

Dissovels on multiply overlays clips. was created by Makki
I am working on little project wich is built up with layers. Up to 7 layers on top of each other with the exact same length of different clips. Mostly using pin light, overlay and linear light. I want to ad dissolves between some of those "towers". It is hard to put the dissolves between 7 clips. Is my only option to make compound clips? The downside of doing that is that I have to shorten the compound clip to get place for the dissolves. Thankfull of any idea to dedicated hobbyist.

You should probably use a compound clip with your 7 layers inside of it, if you intend to dissolve between this stack and another stack (if I'm understanding your situation). It's just a lot easier. Compound clips don't force you to shorten anything. In order to actually do a dissolve you ALWAYS have to have enough media to dissolve from/to anything, whether it's in a compound clip or not.

Thanks for the reply, I will try your suggestion, as you say always need space for dissolve between clips. The seven clips have the exact lenght I want but when converted to Compound I must shorten it even more, and I do not like that.

Maybe I'm not understanding your problem, but putting those clips into a compound clip should not force you to shorten them any more than you would if you had left them separate. You can actually go into a compound clip and manually adjust its length if you need to. If you could include a screenshot of what you're trying to do, that would be helpful.

Thanks again for reply. Maybe it is difficult for me to describe since my native language is Icelandic. Think about it as two column of 7 clips side by side and the next one has 4 clips and I want to ad dissolve between those two columns. Hope it will help. But this conversation is interesting. I will try to upload screanshot.

Column of 7 clips, put in a compound clip.
Column of 4 clips, put in another compound clip.
Select both (cmd-click), right-click, make them into a Secondary Storyline.
Put your transition between the two compound clips in the new storyline.
