Hi,

I've got some MPG files that I'd like to use on Final Cut Pro X and I was wondering how I can get them on there. At the moment they aren't able to import in to my projects or events.

Do I need to convert them to be able to use them? If so what file do they need to be converted to and what can I use to convert them?

Thanks,

Jay

.mpg isn't really enough information. Have you tried opening it in the QuickTime player? You could also try MPEG Streamclip.

I tried to play it on quicktime. It plays the first few seconds of visual and then the rest it just audio. The screen freezes. I can play it much better on VLC.

What is MPEG streamclip??

It's a conversion application. Try Google or Bing to find it.

Some MPEG files can be converted using the Mac's built in transcoder. In the Finder, right click on the file and then choose "Encode Selected Video Files" and then Prores.

I had to by quicktime mpeg playback so that stream clip would work, only it doesn't. What can I do about that? It won't let me intall.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Worked like a charm. I searched for the answer myself, but couldn't find the anything and since El Capitan said it wasn't compatible I thought all was lost.

This does not work. I did have some luck using handbrake in converting my file, but I got stream clip to work as well.
