Randomly loading projects in a event/library was created by adamschoales
So onto my only other major bug that I've been experiencing with FCP X, and since everyone was so helpful yesterday I thought you could maybe help today.
Some background:
This is an externally managed library; ie. my media lives on my RAID, and FCP is just linking to it. It is optimized (prores) media. I have encoded proxies, though I'm not currently using them.
I've created a library for this project which incorporates several different end products. I have created 3 events:
Main Event - this contains the main film, and all the media associated with it.
NYC B-Roll Event - a separate event with nothing but NYC B-roll
Interview Event - contains a copy of the media from the main event that has to do with interviews (video/audio), as well as the projects for each interview (6 in total), and various versions of each interview as we go through the various edit rounds.
Now here's the problem.
I'll launch FCP X, and start editing, and things will be fine. Suddenly I'll click on something - maybe a clip in the timeline, maybe a clip in the browser, maybe even a project, it's hard to determine what triggers it but a dropdown appears at the top of my FCP X window and it will start "loading" one (or more) of my projects as if I were about to load it into the timeline. This will then chug along for however long it requires and go away.
To be clear; I'm not actually trying to pull up a project into my timeline. It will just randomly do this.
Before it was just annoying but this morning when I launched FCP before I could even DO anything it had to "load" all my projects, one by one and I thought I had a beachball on my hands. I just left it alone and eventually it finished up the process and all was fine and dandy but it did leave me somewhat worried.
Has anyone else been experiencing this issue and know of a possible fix? Do I simply have too many projects? Should I be rethinking that?
Thanks!
UPDATE: No sooner had I posted this did I sit down to start editing an encoutered the problem. Grabbed a clip in the browser, set my in and out points, hit "Q" to attach to my clip and BOOM, drop down which had to load 4 projects before actually letting me use the software again.
Here's a screen grab that I managed to snatch: schoal.es/XZmW
(sorry things are all blurred out, but don't want to upset the client)

Hi Adam,
I never have seen such a weird thing happening, nor do I know of any people who have experienced this before. So I don't think it's a bug. The first thing I would do is refresh your FCP X preferences. You can use a free utility from Digital rebellion to do this: www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/

Hi Ronny,
Thanks for the suggestion. Tried that yesterday. Still seems to be happening though...

You might try it once again and shut down and restart your computer just after having refreshed the preferences.
If this still doesn't help: create a new admin user account, launch FCP X with this account and see if you still have the problem.
If you still have the problem with a totally fresh account I would reinstall FCP X. This is absolutely not normal behavior.

I'm experiencing the same problem as Adam.
Already trashed preferences and restarted.
It always occured randomly, so I ignored it, sometimes had to force quit, and went on.
But now there is one move I want to do and the problem comes up every time.
I open FCPX, open the project I'm working on. Double click a compound clip inside project, and "cmd+c" a clip inside this compound clip. As long as I do this, hitting "cmd+c", FCPX drops down the "Loading ... project" window and freezes. Very annoying.
FCPX tries to load a completely random project that has nothing to do with my action.

Adam and Jon,
This is one of those issues that are very difficult to assess because there is no way we can reproduce them and only very few people (actually 2 up till now) seem to experience this. So I would advise you to file a bug report anyway, providing all the specs of your system and a link to this thread.

I have this exact same problem. FCPX 10.3.3 Did anyone get a resolution?
I will have just one project on the timeline but should I go to the clip browser, and maybe filter search, I will then see all the projects in that event appear to be loading - a dialogue box opens to say which ones are "loading". None appear in the time line. It takes a while for the loading to complete.

I have seen this behavior periodically but on my system it only takes a 2-3 seconds to load them. Projects take resources so FCPX may be trying to optimize things by deferring loading non-needed projects. However if you do a search you might be searching projects, so that may be one trigger to load them.
What are the specs on your Mac, what disk subsystem is your library on -- how full is it and what's the BlackMagic benchmark performance? Also how many projects are in the event?

If you're working on one Library, then access anything in a different Library, yes, there should be 2-5 seconds of items form that Library loading. Should happen once for that Library, and never again as long as it remains open. I can't replicate anything outside of this normal behavior.
