Syncing Scrolling Text to Voice-over Audio

Hey All,

I've been working on FCPX recently to edit some projects for a local middle-school history class. One group would like a rather lengthy voice-over (approximately one minute) to be accompanied by a scrolling text transcribing the VO. A bit unconventional, but I figured it would be manageable. Needless to say, I've been working on it for quite some time (changing text length, size, splitting into differing paragraphs, etc.), but I can never seem to keep the audio and text consistently in-sync. I'm aiming to have the voice match the text as it appears at the bottom of the screen, but by segment's end, the text is near the top of the screen as it is being read. I need to turn it back to the school within the next two days, so I'm rather desperate for advice. Are there any recommended strategies/techniques/tools for this, or is it simply a case where continued trial and error will yield the best result? Thanks

Set up the scroll to be the speed and pace that you want and then re-time the voiceover in sections to match the scroll. I often do this to have a new VO match an existing edit. Works fine.

For the future, a better way to do this is to create the scrolling text first checking the pacing and speed yourself so that it is comfortable and then have the reader follow that to record the voice.

Adjusting the duration of the text scroll will speed up or slow down its speed, right? Just making it the correct duration (not necessarily the same duration of the VO clip) should easily do this. Or am I missing something?
