audio outdoor has null reflections (reverb) ...
so, Plan A)
record it in some studio with some 'audio decay'/non-reflective walls....
Plan
add outdoor noises to 'hide' the 'room' (btw: get as close as possible to speakers with mic to avoid catching 'room'): bird's sing, a waterfall, street noise .. = all sounds usually not Indoor ..
Plan C)
I lately I read about plug-ins for 'de-echoing'... technological marvel, at last for me, and a real hefty price tag ...

Yes, record as clean as possible. Clean up as mentioned already. And layer in a good, matching environmental sound track. Pretty simple.
BUT, that environmental track has to MATCH. It has to be damned convincing. Not difficult to do, but find the right one. You may have to layer more than one and mix them appropriately.
Example, we shot inside of a large stable a couple years ago. Got really great sound. But due to the loud noises, which didn't translate as anything but garbage quality background, we ended up using lavs to get clean voice audio. Then, I laid in an country outdoor environment track. And since this was a huge, open air stable, and you could see a bird dart here and there in the background, I added a light birds only track, put on some reverb, and lowered the gain a bit. Then some horse sounds on a third audio track, lowered the gain, etc. Came out super realistic and clean, when the actual background was just garbage.
