Are there any rumours for a new version of FCP/Motion? It's been three years already and I'd hate to go and buy it now to find out in three weeks that Motion 6 is out.

Anyone have any news?

When FCPX was released, Apple publicly stated they had a ten year development plan in place. It's not going anywhere anytime soon. When will there be a "paid" update to FCPX? No one knows at all. But if you wait until someone does know, you're going to get left behind.

Agreed with Ben. Buy now. There's no reason to believe that Apple is doing a major overhaul of either product that will require a paid update anytime soon.

Agreed. Apple always has always provided a refund scheme for people who purchased an older paid version just before a new paid version was released. But a new paid version isn't going to happen very soon anyway, so you are perfectly safe.

Great, thanks for all the responses. I thought I'd ask as looking at previous major releases they're about 3 years apart, which falls about now.

Previous versions were not sold on the App Store, and were developed under a very different model. Don't pay any attention to anything to do with Legacy FCP.
