I have two issues.
I am trying to learn FCP X and during upload my macbook pro keeps chiming with notifications. I've tried to select do not disturb in notifications but still keeps chiming.
Also, when I finish uploading a reel and am ready to either upload another reel or stop for a minute, can't figure out how to escape out of FCP X ... just stays on my desktop.
Thanks,
Cindy

Notifications are controlled in System Preferences on an app by app basis.
Not sure what the second question means. You can hide FCP with Cmd-H if you're not in full screen mode. If you are you have to move to a different space.

You mean File > Quit, or Command-Q don't work?

Did you verify if any background processes were running, by opening the background task window?

What do you mean background task window? I"m lame and need easy 1-2-3 steps. I don't know FCP X and haven't used Final Cut since 5.

In the Tool Bar (silver horizontal bar in the center of the screen), there is a Dashboard in the center. That has a Background Task Clock showing if there is a background task running, and what it's percentage of being done it. Click on it to open the Background Task Window.
If there are certain background tasks running, FCPX won't allow you to quit out of it.
As an ACT, I'd strongly recommend a course like at macProVideo.com to learn FCPX right off the bat properly, and save yourself hours and days of frustration.
