Hi,
I'm finding that I have to delete transitions before I can go in an ripple edit between two clips. I can't seem to figure out how to edit while keeping the transitions in place. Is this possible in FCP X in the way it is in Avid? Also, bonus question:-).... How do you apply Dip to Black transitions without having to keep adding a cross dissolve and then double clicking on 'Fade to Color' in the transition menu? IN FCP 7, I would have a favourite effects bin and just drag them on.

There are little handles at the top left and right corners of the transition icon in the timeline. Drag these and you will ripple edit the clip underneath the transition. Selecting the Trim tool will allow you to roll the edit under the transition.
If you are applying lots of "dip to black" transitions you can make the Fade to Color transition the default by Control-clicking or right-clicking on it and choosing to make it the default.
Otherwise type 'Fade' into the search box at the bottom and you can double-click or drag it from there. You can't make favourites but you could bounce your favourite effects out to Motion and re-save them setting the theme to Favourites and then select that in the Themes browser?
Ian.

Don't even need trim tool to roll edit, just grab the "bow tie" at a transition' stop center.
