Impossible problems importing footage from iPhone 5 was created by bradywurtz
OK, so i thought this would be easy. I'm recording one second of footage each day for the whole year on my iPhone 5 and then importing it into FCPX once a week to edit it together.
So far i've had so many issues that it's driving me insane.
First issue, some of my footage comes in as 30fps, some comes in as 24fps. I have no idea how this is happening. i'm pretty sure there is no option on the phone to switch between different frame rates, especially not 24p.
the second issue is that when i go to import, and click on iPhone 5 on the top tap to view all images and videos on my phone, and i go through and Command Click only the few (usually 7 or
videos i want to bring in, and i click 'Import', and it even says '8 of 405 selected' on the bottom of the window, it begins to import literally every single image and video off my phone. This causes the biggest headache i can ever imagine. i then have to stop the import, and go through and delete stuff that i don't need, but make sure i keep the footage i've been working with for the past 5 months. then i go back and try and import one file at a time, and this works for a bit, but then after a little bit, all of a sudden, after deleting just one file out of the 400+ on my phone, it begins to import EVERY SINGLE IMAGE AND VIDEO ON MY PHONE.
does anyone else have this issue and if so, what are you doing to fix it or avoid this from happening? i'm on 10.9.3 OS X and 10.1.1 on FCPX and 7.1.1 iOS on an iPhone 5 working on an iMac

"First issue, some of my footage comes in as 30fps, some comes in as 24fps. "
This is a function of the iPhone. It changes speed to make it easier to adjust the exposure. You can't control this as far as I know.
"i go through and Command Click only the few"
Click in the Format column in list view in the import window so all the clips are grouped together.

Hi.
First off, which app on IPhone did you use?
Can you first copy all your video files to the desktop in a folder?
I would then use a program like Pavtube to convert all those video files into one giant clip. There is an option to do that in Pavtube and maybe some other app someone might know about.
I'd set the export settings of whatever method to Pro Res 422, and then import that file into your FC library/Event.
Also make sure that before you do the conversion, your files convert in the proper order. You may need to rename I.e. Vid 1, vid 2, vid 3 all the way to 4xx.

Forgot to mention you can use Apples Image Capture to select the files you want to copy to the folder. iPhone shoots to h264, not a friendly editing format, thus the reason to convert to Pro Res.

I had no idea about this! That's kinda weird!? Makes me thankful I never tried doing some kinda short narrative project on my phone and then find out everything is in the wrong fps!

I just use the camera app. I don't use any special apps to capture the footage. I also don't shoot anything in the 'slo-mo' feature because I don't have that on my phone (at least I don't think).
I'll try bringing it all in using the Image Capture software on the Mac. hopefully that will make things a lot easier.
Probably don't need to do any of that other stuff like use some program called Pavtube and make a giant clip, or reexport them or anything. FCPX will convert my files into Apple Pro Res for me.

This is dead simple. If it's not, then I'd delete prefs or reinstall FCPX. When you select only certain clips, in addition to the Import button there should be an Import Selection button. When I click that, only my selections import. 24 vs. 30 fps is not an issue - just let it render.
