Spatial conform issue with Synchronized Clips

Hey All. So I'm testing workflow with some footage. 4K RED material with audio recorded to second-source Zoom, working in a 1080p timeline. I had previously been working with the audio just recorded to the camera, but the mix down they were giving me isn't cutting it separation-wise. I need all 4 channels.

So generating the sync clips works fine. Now, I drop the sync clip into the Project. Great. Now I want to do some reframing.

So I go to Spatial Conform and change from FIT to NONE, so I get the full 4K image. Nothing happens.

I go back to the Event Browser and check that FCP hasn't made a 1080p sync clip out of my 4K media. Nope. Sync Clip is 4K.

But I check the Sync Clip that's been edited into the Project, and the Info Tab now shows it as 1080p.

If I check with an unSynchronized Clip, of course, it's still 4K when you drop it into the Project and if you change conform to NONE you get the full-size image.

This appears to be a bug, I think.

Hey Marcus,

It's a known issue, but there are workarounds:

Thanks very much, Ronny.

I've already submitted a bug report to Apple.

In the thread you linked, you mention that Spatial Conform doesn't translate from FCP X to Resolve. Your note was from mid-2013. Has that changed with 10.1.1 and Resolve 10.1?

I had planned in the next week to do a new test of what gets carried over. I'm primarily interested in Transform and Spatial Conform, as I'm doing lots of reframing from the 4K camera files to the 1080p timeline.

I don't use Spatial Conform very often, so I have no idea how this translates to Resolve at this time. Transform has always translated very well. And I really expect the coming FCP X update to include an updated FCPXML that should work even beter with R11. Just a guess...

So when you say you don't use Spatial Conform, do you mean you leave it at the default on FIT, or that you always set it to NONE when you do your Transformations?

Hey Marcus,

Sorry for het late reply. If I have to go to Resolve I always leave Spatial Conform to "Fit" in FCP X. Scaling up and positioning in "Fit" mode seems to transfer well to Resolve, scaling up and positioning from "None" messes things up. Some of these things may change in a few weeks.
