How to make text scroll... was created by spydervenom
I am making a video similar to this one linked below and they make their text scroll across the screen as it's being read. Any suggestions on how to do that. I am editing on FCPX. I also have Motion, but have no idea how to use it.
Also, I need to be able to put that twitter icon on the screen as well and am not really sure how to do that. Any ideas would be awesome! Thanks!!

I know there is a vertical title scroll in X. I'm not sure if there is a crawl, or in your case a typewriter style title.
Someone here will know.

Actually there are a whole bunch of text templates you can do that with.
Try Typewriter and Fade.
If those don't work for you I can whip up something quickly for you.

OK I'll look into it.
I also have messed around with Motion for the first time and think I may have figured out a way to do it in there, but we will see. I will let you know! Thanks!

It's super easy. Text sequence in Motion would do it. But if you are working in FCPX I would recommend you stay in their, or create a Text Template for FCPX.
You could start with right clicking on the typewriter template, it will open a copy and then you can just adjust the duration to more of your liking.

For the Twitter icon or other graphics/text, you can create a .png file (Preview, Pixelmator, etc…) png file background appear as transparencies.
Place your .png into a text block like an effect that has Title, SubTitle fields. You can then use the inspector pane to position, and animate.
Haven't tried it, but you could most likely insert the png above the video and another title clip so you have a little more control. I'll try it out later if I get a chance.
Hope this helps, Greg
Okay, I did try it, but you can't insert a graphic into the "text" field, but you can insert a .png graphic into the timeline. I had to export the png into either iPhoto or Aperture library and then I could insert as photo into timeline and position via Inspector pane. To animate, it is easier to use Motion. I once created a dancing logo that followed text, but I must have used Motion.
Easy to insert stationary icon like the twitter file and position it. Then insert a Title effect for the names.
Sorry for any confusion. Me bad.

You should be able to import a .png file directly into FCPX without iPhoto or Aperture. Or even a photo file that is .jpg or .raw.
No, graphics can't go into text blocks, they are free floating clips, as you found.

Don't forget there is a free plugin with FX factory that does both vertical and horizontal scrolling.
Manifesto. Works really well!

We've developed a final solution for scrolling both vertical and horizontal, that's a plugin for fcpx.
It can contain text and picture, also can align text and picture!
Most important is, you will never see even a little jitter at interlaced format or p format!
The quality is just the same as studio online production virtz, which is much better than title crawl for FCP7.
The BCC's title crawl will also cause a little jittering, though much better than fcpx's scrolling or other plugins.
The png or tag file moving in fcpx also cause jittering, you will see that even you use some feather to blur the alpha channel using photoshop, but it's better than fcpx's scrolling.
