Importing xml from 7toX crashing
Got to edit a project originally completed on FCP7.. Ironically I have never used fcp7 (you can all laugh now) as I can from PPro..
So, after watching a brief video today, I bought the '7toX' app to help with importing and translating.
I followed the instructions and created a FCPXML file, went to FCPX and tried importing the XML and............... FCPX 10.1 hangs (application not responding)
Can anyone tell me if or what I have done wrong here?
My only concern was the project originally had no xml file so I asked the previous editor to email the xml file over to me (is this ok?)

It said 75 clips needs re-attaching in FCPX, I assumed this is because its looking for the same original locations?

If that still doesn't work. Fill out the feedback form in the 7toX app. They can help you diagnose it specifically.
Unfortunately XML can be squarely.

I will try your suggestion to see if that makes a difference

This can be caused by a number of things, you haven't necessarily done something wrong.
When you have opened the FCP7 XML file in 7toX you have two options: "Send to Final Cut Pro X" or "Save XML". It is best to save the FCP7 XML as a new FCPX XML, then launch FCP X and import the FCPX XML. If this still crashes FCP X you might want to check the FCP7 XML file.
One of the major causes for FCP7 XMLs crashing FCP X is a corrupt or badly formatted XML file. You can check and repair the XML file with the Repair XML tool from the Digital Rebellion Pro Maintenance Pack:
www.digitalrebellion.com/promaintenance/
There is a fully working trial version, you could use this to see if it can fix the XML. Always make a copy of the XML file before trying to repair it.
Try these things first, if FCP X still crashes: post back. I'm off to sleep now but I will check this post first thing in the morning. In the meantime other people may chime in to further assist you.
EDIT: I see tpayton already replied while I was writing this, so I will sleep better now

Ronnie, i ran the XML repair program and it said Nothing needed repairing.
tpayton I tried moving the media into another location folder and this did not work either.
Finally, I tried converting the xml file on my laptop instead of my iMac and I get the same outcome.
I will email the support line and post back when I get a solution

edit: another thought... is the project (sequence) big? Like a feature or short or something? I ask because often when X is "not responding" it's actually doing something. How long did you wait before aborting/force quitting or whatever? Try doing the import and going to get coffee or do something else for a while.

I went and had a bath and came back and it had not moved (application not responding)... The footage and files take up around 14 gig I think, not sure if thats classed as big really
