RED Workflow, General Questions was created by zeroscenecred
I'm possibly working with some RED Epic footage in the somewhat near future (before end of year) and I'm wondering what the support is like inside FCPX. I've lurked around a bit at REDUser but I dared not post anything since they're all (rightfully) pretty pissed off about FCPX's database losing connection with clips if the clip is modified by anything outside of X (which seems to have bungholed a common workflow of using lower-res ProRes files and then replacing them after the project is picture-locked).
So is the basic workflow to create baked-in ProRes files and edit with those? Does X handled R3D RAW stuff at all? If I want to go from X to Resolve I'm going to want to grade the RAW files (otherwise what's the point of using a RED?) and is that even possible? Am I'm going to have to go through a wicked-awful conform process of replacing clips with 3k or 4k?
Anyhow, none of this is immediate and subject to change I'm sure as Apple fixes / upgrades FCPX. With the announcement of Scarlet it's pretty likely that we'll work with that camera pretty soon, if not a full-on Epic, and I'm rather partial to X for a lot of things now versus 7. But hey if I need to go back to 7 to make use of a professional camera like the Epic/Scarlet I'll do that...... just won't be happy about it!
Thanks in advance!

RED support is coming.
When you import your RED RAW footage, you'll use Proxy clips, and not copy the original into the Event, unless you really want to.
In the Preferences set Playback to use Proxies. When done editing, set it back to use Originals, Export.
Yep, taking footage out to AE and stuff is a bug for now.

Seems pretty straightforward and just like dealing with any media by the sounds of it.
Can you import the RED RAW footage now or is that the part that's coming?
