Problems with Converted MKV files

So im currently trying to edit a video that is .mkv. Since FCPX does not support this file I converted it using VLC player.
After that file is done converting, I drop the new file into final cut pro.
The clip is of a first half of a soccer game. It looks as if the video is constantly skipping, even though its showing up normal in the timer. I don't know whats causing this problem or how to fix it. The audio is fine, its just the video that seems to be messed up.

I was thinking it could be that the frame rate is playing back slower than the video was shot in? If that is the case, how do I determine a video's fps? Im not sure as Im not an expert by any means.
If I could get some suggestions that would be awesome.
