HELP HELP!! FCPX won't work!! was created by Neo_Harms
Hi there,
I have Final Cut Pro X, updated to 10.0.8 and have been hvaing issues all day. FCPX has been working great until earlier on when it started to crash immediately upon clicking the icon in the dock and returning an error report (it's enormous and I have no idea what it says).
It does the same thing no matter if my harddisc is connected or not. I have a deadline on a project last week, so i'm a little desperate..
Any ideas?
Please help. thank you

To get through this as quickly as possible, we'll skip a lot of garbage.
1- Run Disk Utility and Repair all drives (Permissions on the OS drive).
2- Download "FCS Remover" from Digital Rebellion (dot com) to wipe out FCPX 100% from your drive.
3- Launch the App Store, go to the Purchases section, Install FCPX from scratch.
That will eliminate most of the possibilities in the shortest time.
An alternative to steps 2 & 3, download "Preference Manager" from Digital Rebellion (dot com) and use it to quickly and safely delete FCPX pref files. See if that helps. If it doesn't, you'll want to do steps 2 & 3.
Both of these apps are free, btw.

Thanks a lot for the answer Ben.. I really appreciate..
Just to be sure.. So you are saying that step 2 & 3 are definitely working?

What Ben suggested should do the trick. Just be aware that if you reinstall from the App Store you will get
FCP X 10.1.1, which will involve converting your production to the new Library structure. If you don't wish to do this you also can reinstall FCP X 10.0.8 from a backup if you have this.
BTW you said you had updated FCP X to 10.0.8. Have you done this in the middle of this project? If so, from which earlier version did you do the update? It's not always a good idea to update an NLE mid-project.

Doh! Right, I glossed over that you're on 10.0.8. So don't delete the app, delete the pref files only. Maybe someone has a good working copy of 10.0.8 here you could like up with.

There might be something going on with your user account. One thing you might want to try is creating new a user account and see if the problem persists. Here is some info:
support.apple.com/kb/TS4053
Here is some troubleshooting FCPX from Apple:
support.apple.com/kb/ts3893
Here is some more excellent troubleshooting from Richard Taylor:
fcpx.tv/troubleshooting.html
As an aside, if you download/install FCPX from the App Store on a pre OS 10.9, you will be told you can install the last comparable version for your OS, so you can install FCPX 10.0.9, which is almost identical for 10.0.8.

Trashing FCP X won't delete your projects or events. But if refreshing your FCP X preferences hasn't solved your issue I would follow TPayton's advice and create a new user account. Then try opening your FCP X project using this new account.
If this works you can finish your current production before installing a newer version of FCP X. Reinstalling an app if you have a corrupt user account won't solve your problem anyway. So it's best to try opening FCP X with a new user account first. If this doesn't help then yes, you will need to reinstall.
