Importing Files From Canon XF-300 (QT | XF Plug In)

Greetings:

I'm shooting with a Canon XF-300. I've noticed recently that when I import files directly into FCPX from my CF card, the files are split into two categories, "Canon XF Plugin" and "QT Movie." I'm trying to understand why this is happening, as the files are all shot in the same format, and at the same time.

When the media import window pops up, under transcoding, "Create optimized media" is selected but greyed out. Nothing else is selected in the import window. Can anyone shed some light on this issue for me? I know FCPX handles MXF files, but why is it importing them in two different formats?

Thanks!

As soon as the file are optimized, the plugin disappears. Don't ask me about the hoes and the whys, but it enables you to start editing the XF files right away until they will be replaced by the finished QT files.

FCPX point to, and uses the files on the card, only until they are fully copied into the Library, at which time it changes the pointer to the optimized versions it has copied.
