I thought 10.1 fixed this problem but it doesn't look like it. I am frustrated with this beyond words. There seems to be absolutely no way to edit audio in a multi cam clip. I recorded a line feed on channel 1 and shotgun mic on channel 2. When I try to edit in multi cam I cannot separate the two audio channels, they stay as one. I am trying to EQ the hum out of the shotgun feed and boost the levels separately on the line feed. This used to be sooooo easy in FCP 6 and 7 but they still haven't given us this simple solution. I guess I could totally separate the audio from the camera 1 angle but my goodness how many steps does it take for such a simple procedure. Is there any better more direct, not work around way or has Apple just continued to drop the ball on this simple feature?
I think I finally found the solution, totally de-select the audio for the second camera and now the audio opens in two tracks!

See if this helps at all.

Basically, you first configure the channels in the Inspector, then open the Audio Components in the Timeline to trim them up.

Brad this is really easy in FCPX. If the link Ben gave doesn't solve it for you come back and we can try to help. But I do what you want to do all the time so I know it can be done very easily.

Got it Ben and Dave. Oh how I wish I could find these answers when I'm looking before getting so frustrated. I think sometimes its so hard to find answers when you don't know how to best word a search. I always end up embarrassed at having not discovered the answer. The little break down you offered was extremely helpful Ben and now I am able to see the audio for both cameras! Thanks
It's good to know someone else is doing the same audio scenarios Dave. I shoot like this all the time and blend the two tracks for a better ambience from one and a cleaner track from the other. I only do this for concerts etc. but it works great for me.
Thanks guys!

This is why I strongly encourage formal training of the app to start with. Saves you weeks of time and day of heartache in the long run. macProVideo, Ripple Training, and especially the Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Pro X 10.1, Professional Post-Production book. The three best on the market. So worth the time and investment in any of these three.
