Is there any way to import marker lists into FCP X?

Yes, Marker Import is a free app to do this:
www.digitalrebellion.com/cutnotes
The markers will need to be in FCP 7 marker list format.

Thanks Jon. That sound really useful. Where could I find a description of, or example of, FCP 7 marker list format in case I wanted to manually create such a list?

The format is pretty simple. The first line is the column names (separated by tabs):
Name, Type, Marker Name, Comment , Start, Duration, Color
Then each line underneath is a marker (each item tab separated), for example:
Sequence 1, Sequence, Move this shot earlier, Maybe at the start of the scene, 00:03:19:20, 00:00:00:00, Red
In FCP 7 marker names and comments are separate so they have separate columns, however in FCPX there is only one possible value for a marker so Marker Import combines them. Therefore for FCPX you really only need to fill in the Marker Name field.
Tip: you may find it easier to import into a spreadsheet app as a tab-separated file, because it will provide a better UI for editing column data.
Edit: the forum screwed up the tabs so where I've placed a comma above, put a tab instead.
