I've just recently noticed some odd performance issues. My machine is a new 8-core MacPro with 32GB RAM and D700 GPUs.

I started working on a project and noticed "stuttery" looking playback in the timeline and when previewing clips. Noticeable on shots with horizontal pans. Typically just after a shot change. If I replay that same section immediately after it plays back smooth. No frame drops reported.

The footage is a mix of C300 files and some still JPGs. This machine should have no problem with that, but the playback issues were in evidence even after I switched to Optimal Performance and even Proxy playback.

Originally the footage was on a GDrive Thunderbolt RAID 6TB drive. Though that might be an issue, so i move the footage and project over to a brand new library on my Pegasus 15TB TB1 RAID. Same issue.

Now I've noticed that some clips in the library will not generate thumbnails no matter what I do. See attached screen-cap. Note the one in the middle - 2014-03...14:10:17... the top and tail of the clip gets a thumbnail generated, but the not the middle. Not matter how much I zoom in or out.

Any thoughts?

I'm pretty sure it's flaky hardware of some kind. Check out the attached screen footage I shot - note the "checkerboard-like" glitches as I scrub through the event thumbnails and the jerky playback that is apparent when I play a section of the timeline and which rectifies itself when I play the same section of the timeline immediately thereafter:

If you haven't done so, use the feedback page to report this, and include all your shareware specs and a link to this forum thread or the youtube clip so Apple can see it. :-)
